MEET THE BOARD

My name is Alyssa Gill and I’m a senior in the UGA Honors Program. I am pursuing dual degrees in Entertainment and Media Studies from the Grady College of Journalism and English in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. Creative writing and literature have been pillars of my life since I was very young. I believe that an English degree will indicate to employers that I am an effective communicator, an attentive listener, and a thoughtful reader. I want our members to know that these qualities are valued in most fields – the possibilities are endless! I am thrilled to be a part of the UEA and a part of this exceptional group of women on the executive board. Our goal is to help students find potential careers that suit their talents but also align with their passions for English.

Katherine Sartor – President

I am double majoring in English and English Education. I love to volunteer, especially at Thomas Lay where reading is a focus for elementary school children. I love to read and delve deep into the meanings of novels. To me reading and studying literature is not just a pastime, instead it is a passion. It is something that I hope to share with others when I become an English professor. There is a distinct lack of support for English majors on campus and because of this, I wanted to join a group that gave English majors a community. I wish I had the information as an underclassman that the UEA offers to its members. I joined the UEA to help other English majors explore their options and to guide them with their future pursuits.

Rachael Dier – Vice President

Hello! My name is Rachael Dier. I’m currently majoring in English with a New Media Certificate. I’ve had a love for English ever since I was little, and I always knew it was the field I wanted my career to be in. Though I’m still not certain what career that will be, I’m excited to see where my major takes me.

Sadly, many are discouraged from choosing this major, due to the notion that it won’t take them anywhere. This is why I joined UEA; I wanted to learn what this field has to offer, and encourage other students do the same.
